Dúo de hip hop underground formado por Stic.Man y M-1. Se han dado a conocer en parte por sus líricas centradas en la política, el racismo, la pedagogía crítica, el activismo contra la hipocresía gubernamental, y el control corporativo de los medios de comunicación.
Influenciados por Malcolm X y Public Enemy, Dead Prez transcribió la educación política que adquirieron en la poesía lírica.
Algunos admiradores les han acusado de dejar a un lado sus aspectos revolucionarios, a cambio de un estilo más "gangsta" tras el lanzamiento de "Revolutionary But Gangsta", mientras otros dicen que el grupo ha comenzado a enfatizar su nacionalismo negro (sobre todo en las mixtapes "Turn Off the Radio") sobre sus opiniones originales de socialismo radical, y que esto enajena a los anteriores admiradores de su trabajo. Incluso todavía, otros admiradores insisten en que la lírica revolucionaria sea todavía prominente.
